Autumn Anime Watch List 2015

With the summer 2015 anime season drawing to a close, the autumn season is just around the corner, and here’s what I’m planning on watching:

One Punch Man

One Punch Man, Madhouse

In this new action-comedy, everything about a young man named Saitama screams “AVERAGE,” from his lifeless expression, to his bald head, to his unimpressive physique. However, this average-looking fellow doesn’t have your average problem… He’s actually a superhero that’s looking for tough opponents! The problem is, every time he finds a promising candidate he beats the snot out of them in one punch. Can Saitama finally find an evil villain strong enough to challenge him? Follow Saitama through his hilarious romps as he searches for new bad guys to challenge! [from]

My housemate is a big fan of the One Punch Man manga. She’s making me excited about watching the anime with all her comments on how good the manga is. The trailer looks really exciting.

Noragami Aragoto

Noragami Aragoto, Bones

In the second season of Noragami the main focus is on Bishamon, god of combat. She has many shinki due to her being unable to abandon spirits attacked by Ayakashi. She has a large group of shinki with her as leader, causing her trouble as she sometimes cannot tend to all of them properly, especially when one of them gets sick or is in pain. She has a strong hate for Yato, as a dark past binds the two of them. How will the horrifying events dated hundreds of years ago in combination with current evil happenings affect Yato and Yukine? [from]

I just finished watching the first season of Noragami with the housemate, so we’re all geared up and ready to go with the second! I’m reading the manga so I know what’s going to happen, but looking forward to seeing her reaction to Bishamon’s arc, especially that cliffhanger with Yukine… You know the one I mean.

Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai

Taimadou Gakuen 35 Shiken Shoutai, Silver Link

The 35th Test Platoon of Antimagic academy, they’re one of squads enrolled at academy specializing in raising the witch hunters, whose job is to find, neutralize any magical threats! Unfortunately they’re a group of failures nicknamed “Small Fry Platoon,” a platoon formed from bunch of self-centered people who can’t cooperate and have personality problems. Will they manage to overcome their weaknesses and shine as the strongest platoon? [from]

I know nothing about this anime, apart from the plot, but it sounds interesting. I’m all up for any anime that has a magical element with lots of battles. Especially when the people doing the fighting are the underdogs.

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry

Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry, Silver Link

The “school sword action” story revolves around Magic Knights, modern magic-users who fight with weapons converted from their souls. Ikki Kurogane goes to a school for these Magic Knights, but he is the “Failed Knight” or “Worst One” who is failing because he has no magical skills. However, one day, he is challenged to a duel by Stella, a foreign princess and the “Number One” student. In this duel, “the loser must be obedient for life.” [from]

This is another anime I knew nothing about until I found a summary online. Again, magic, battles, underdogs, and I’m interested by the magical school setting for this series.

Lance N’ Masques

Lance N’ Masques, Studio Gokumi

The battle action novel series revolves around Youtarou Hanafusa, a young man who is part of the last remaining order of knights in the 21st century, “Knights of the World.” As he fights as the mysterious Knight Lancer, he must hide his identity behind a mask. [from]

This just sounds cute. I like a nice innocent young child/older person relationship, like in Usagi Drop. As long as the relationship stays innocent then I’ll gladly watch this anime. It just sounds like its going to be a fun one to watch.

High School Star Musical

High School Star Musical, C-Station

The story involves a group of high school students at Ayana Academy, a school with music as its main focus. A trio of students are called Hanasakura-kai, designating the most talented from the music department. To get in, individuals must enter through a Star Frame class. The series tells the story of Yuuta Hoshiya, Tooru Nayuki, Kaito Tsukikage, Shou Tengeiji, and Shuu Kuga as they aim for a position in the musical department after being spotted by Ootori, one of the Hanasakura-kai members. [from]

I’m unsure about whether to have this one on my list… I really enjoyed the first two seasons of Glee and I have a feeling this anime maybe a bit like it. We’ll see… I added it on as one to watch for some lighthearted realism.

Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider

Subete ga F ni Naru: The Perfect Insider, A-1 Pictures

The story of the original novel revolves around Souhei Saikawa, a member of the Saikawa Research Lab. On a vacation held for the lab, he meets Moe Nishinosono, the daughter of his mentor, who joins the group on their vacation despite not being a part of the lab. After meeting each other, the two end up finding a corpse. The two work together to solve the mysteries of what becomes a serial murder case. [from]

This anime sounds interesting. I haven’t watch any crime/detective anime series yet (apart from Death Note I guess…), so this will be my first.

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru

Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru, Lantis

Shoutarou Tatewaki, a high schooler living in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, meets Sakurako Kujou, a bone-loving ojou-san who has an ability to analyze specimen. Because of meeting her, he has to accompany her to various cases. [from]

It’s interesting that two different studios are airing two detective series this winter. A-1 Pictures seem to be good at producing anime, so I have high hopes for The Perfect Insider, but hopefully this anime will also deliver well on the goods – a lot of people seem excited about it.

Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya

Seraph of the End, Wit Studio

Yuuichirou has reunited with Mikaela at the Shinjuku Battle. But Mikaela was turned into a vampire… To save the “family,” and to protect his fellow members, Yuuichirou needed to gain knowledge and power. He searched for ways to bring back vampire to human beings, and at the same time, trained hard working on the Cursed Gear. Meanwhile, Kureto calls Guren and tells him a shocking truth. That in one month, the main unit of the vampire will start attacking Tokyo. To get a head start against vampires, Kureto orders Guren to go to Nagoya. The noble extermination mission is about to open fire! [from]

I’m torn about whether or not to watch this season. I watched the first and loved it so much that I started reading the manga, only to find that I preferred the manga to the anime.

I want to find out what happens, but I think I’d rather find out through the manga rather than the anime. At the same time I’m afraid of seeing spoilers (I already know what happens in Chapter 36 and 37 *cries about MikaYuu like a fangirl*), so I might watch the season. After that I assume they’ll take a long break from animating the series since it will have caught up with the manga by then.

Feel free to follow me on Twitter, where I’ll be posting updates about these series as I watch them. I always like chatting to people about what’s happened in that weekly episode. You can find my Twitter handle on the right hand side of the page.

What anime series are you looking forward to watching this winter/spring?
