Winter Anime Watch List 2016

Hello everyone! Long time no speak.

I’m quickly coming out of my hiatus to write two blog posts, then I’m going back into hiatus until 11th January! Then I shall return with my weekly Saturday blog posts. Really looking forward to getting back into blogging.

So, to kick off the preparations for 2016, here’s the list of anime I am planning on watching from January until March next year.

All the series summaries are from

Durarara!!x2 Ketsu

Durarara!!, Studio Shuka

Third and final cours of the second Durarara!! season.

I got into Durarara!! this October. I loved it! The way that the story is told with the interlocking characters is fantastic, and I really liked the mix of urban and fantasy. Looking forward to returning to the world of the super-strong blonde barmen – “Izzzzzaaaaaayaaaaaa-kuuuuunn!!”

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2nd Season

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu, Lerche

The second season of Ansatsu Kyoushitsu.

This is the series I am most excited about watching this season. I’ve miss this anime. My week isn’t complete without my dose of Karma-kun (aka. Red Hair Psycho No. 2).

Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri – Enryuu-hen

Gate, A-1 Pictures

Second season of the Gate anime.

I finished watching the first season of Gate a few weeks ago. It was a little harem-y at times, but I loved the mix of fantasy and realism. It was a good twist on having a someone from our world enter a fantasy one.

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime 2nd Season

Akagami no Shirayukihime, Bones

2nd season of Akagami no Shirayuki-hime.

Another series I’m really looking forward to watching. I loved the first season – Shirayuki is a good strong female character, and her romance with Zen is adorable. It was a nice, soft anime to watch among all the screaming action shounen I enjoy.

Ajin, Polygon Pictures

Ajin are humans that cannot die. Seventeen years ago, they first appeared on a battlefield in Africa. From then on, more of their kind are discovered within the human society. Their rarity in appearance means that, for experimental purposes, the government will generously reward anyone who captures one. In the present day, for what a certain high school student expects to be a typical summer holiday, his life is about to turn unexpected…

So…this is a horror anime. And I don’t do well with horror… I’m a little nervous about watching this one, since I get freaked easily. I know – I’m a massive scaredy cat. So depending on the level of horror and gore in this anime I might stop watching it if it gets too much for me.

Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm

Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm, Gonzo

In a world where flying is as simple as riding a bicycle, there is a popular sport called “Flying Circus.” The protagonist once had a bright future ahead of him in that field of sports but due to an overwhelming defeat in addition to a certain other reason, he has left that field. However, he meets the transfer student Kurashina Asuka and regains his passion as he teaches her how to fly. With his situation changed, he participates once again in the Flying Circus. Just how high will he be able to fly this time with Asuka at his side? This is a love story about the two who met while soaring in the skies, and the friends surrounding them.

I’m tentatively adding this to the list. It’s one that is likely to be dropped if it doesn’t grab my attention. It sounds OK, and I like the idea of a fantasy/sci-fi sports anime. We shall see…

Boku dake ga Inai Machi

Boku dake ga Inai Machi, A-1 Pictures

Struggling manga author Satoru Fujinuma is beset by his fear to express himself. However, he has a supernatural ability of being forced to prevent deaths and catastrophes by being sent back in time before the incident occurred, repeating time until the accident is prevented. One day, he gets involved in an accident that has him framed as a murderer. Desperate to save the victim, he sends himself back in time only to find himself as a grade-schooler one month before fellow classmate Kayo Hinazuki went missing. Satoru now embarks on a new quest: to save Kayo and solve the mystery behind her disappearance.

This anime sounds cool! After watching Sakurako-san and The Perfect Insider, I’ve got a craving for mystery anime!

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar

Hai to Gensou no Grimgar, A-1 Pictures

Why are we here? Why are we doing this? Before Haruhiro had realized what happened, he was surrounded by darkness. Why was he here? Where was here? Even now, he still didn’t know. Those around him were the same as him, no one remembered anything other than their own names. And when they emerged from the darkness, the world that awaited them seemed like something out of a video game. In order to survive, Haruhiro forms a party with the others, learns fighting skills, and as a soldier in the reserve force, takes his first steps into the world of Grimgar. What awaits him there, he doesn’t know… This the story of an adventure born from the ashes.

Fantasy anime! Shounen action fantasy anime! YAY! Just my cup of tea, and if it’s A-1 Pictures doing it, then I have high hopes.

Dimension W

Dimension W, Studio 3Hz

In the year 2072, the world’s energy problems seem solved by a network of cross-dimensional electric-field inductors—”coils”—that extract energy from a seemingly infinite source. That source is the W dimension, a fourth plane that exists beyond the X, Y, and Z dimensions. In this world, unofficial “illegal” coils harness powers that the police can’t hope to counter. Dealing with these coils is the job of coil-hating repo man Kyoma, whose run-in with the unique coil android Mira leads the two to form a reluctant partnership.

This anime also sounds cool! I like a good sci-fi tale. Looking forward to seeing what the dynamic is like between the repo man and the android.

Divine Gate

Divine Gate, Studio Pierrot

When the Divine Gate opened, the living world, the heavens, and the underworld became connected, ushering an era of chaos where desires and conflict intersect. To restore order, the World Council is formed. As peace is restored, the Divine Gate becomes an urban legend. In that world, boys and girls deemed fit by the World Council are gathered. They are ones who aim to reach the gate for their personal objectives. Those who reach the gate can remake the world. What lies beyond the gate? When they reach the door, will the world change? Will it be the past that changes, or will it be the future?

Another interesting sounding shounen anime. As you can tell, I’m a sucker for fantasy action anime.

Musaigen no Phantom World

Musaigen no Phantom World, Kyoto Animation

In the near future, spirits and monsters are in full sight. A boy leads a group of people with special abilities as they plot against a massive organization that takes advantage of a certain incident and eventually know the truth about their world in the process.

I almost didn’t add this anime to the list. The premise sounds really good, but the photo screams harem. Then I saw Kyoto Animation were animating it, so decided to give this anime the benefit of the doubt. It will be dropped, and I will forever me disappointed in Kyoto Animation if it ends up being full of fan service, or if all the main female characters spend their time fawning over the male protagonist.

Which anime are you planning on watching this season?
