Long time no speak again. Absence this time has once again been from illness. Caught a chest infection and had to take time off work because of it. Have been feeling like a piece of kuso because of it.
Anyway, back now. Hopefully (she says) with weekly posts!
Starting off with my Spring Anime 2016 Watch List.
I’ve gone for quality over quantity this season. To be honest, there isn’t a lot on the list that takes my fancy. It’s all a bit meh, although there are a number of shows on the list that I am *does Franky pose* SUPER excited about.
I’ll also be continuing with Assassination Classroom season 2, and I need to catch up on Fairy Tail since the current season is ending, or has done so already by the time you read this.
All the series descriptions below were taken from myanimelist.net, where you can view the whole season’s offerings.
Bungou Stray Dogs
Nakajima Atsushi was kicked out of his orphanage, and now he has no place to go and no food. While he is standing by a river, on the brink of starvation, he rescues a man whimsically attempting suicide. That man is Dazai Osamu, and he and his partner Kunikida are members of a very special detective agency. They have supernatural powers and deal with cases that are too dangerous for the police or the military.
I know nothing about the manga this anime is based on, but it sounds and looks bloody amazing. I was drawn in by the protagonist’s background description. I’m a massive sucker for stories about characters living in orphanages, or kicking around on the streets of London Victorian-esque cities.
And if you haven’t watched the trailer for this anime, do so. The magic system looks stunning. The whole animation looks beautiful.
Yeah. Seriously looking forward to watching this anime. Hope it doesn’t disappoint.
Boku no Hero Academia
What’s a hero? For Izuku Midoriya, the answer to that question has always been simple: “Everything I want to be!” Izuku’s transformation from dreamer to superhero begins at Yuuei Academy, the top-ranked hero-training high school in Japan. Izuku is on cloud nine when he’s accepted to this prestigious academy, especially when he finds out that All Might is one of the teachers. What surprises does this mighty academy offer? And will Izuku be able to keep up with his elite classmates?
I’ve heard many a good thing about the Boku no Hero Academia manga, and have seen a few Naturo and One Piece crossovers with it, signalling that it is the next in that generation of popular shounen manga.
The premise and concept sound interesting. Not sure whether the plot is going to be as dark as One Piece and Naruto but I guess we’ll find out. All of you who read the manga are probably cackling at my ignorance right now.
Looking forward to finding out what all the hype is about.
A shady bus tour of young men and women are headed to an elusive village called Nanakimura. A destination where people can partake in an utopian existence, free of the world’s obstacles… or so goes the rumor. Heading deep into the mountains, the bus is carrying 30 different individuals, each harboring their own expectations and troubled hearts… What they had arrived to was an uninhabited village with lingering, faint scents of life and it was falling apart.
I always enjoy watching original anime, mostly because there’s no manga to spoil the plot, and because the anime is written for TV the story line isn’t going to be dragged out or cut down. The story should flow well over the 12 episodes.
The plot for this anime sounds really interesting. Mysterious and slightly creepy. I’m hoping this anime is going to be full of suspense, a real nail biter that makes you afraid for the characters every time they walk around a corner.
Magi: Sinbad no Bouken
It tells the story of Sinbad’s early life, when he captured two of the dungeons.
I’ve already watched the OVAs for the Sinbad no Bouken manga, and tried to read the manga online (but because I seriously despise reading stuff on my computer screen I gave up). The OVAs were really good, although perhaps a little rushed, and I was really enjoying finding out about Sinbad’s background. He’s a really interesting character.
Looking forward to watching this series, as I want to find out more about Sinbad. He’s one my favourite Magi characters just because he’s so mysterious and has interesting motives. Will be interesting to find out how he fell half into depravity.
Sousei no Onmyouji
Rokuro is from a family of exorcists, but he’d rather be a singer, a soccer player or anything but an exorcist! He’s forced to own up to his own incredible potential when new arrival Benio stirs his competitive spirit. But their rivalry gets a twist when they earn the prestigious title of “Twin Star Exorcists”—two supreme fighters fated to marry and birth the ultimate spiritual warrior!
Again, I’ve heard a lot of good things about this manga. It’s another highly anticipated anime.
I’ve read the first chapter of the Twin Star Exorcists manga, but wasn’t captured enough to want to continue with it. Seeing it animated will most likely peak my interest more. When it comes to exorcists my heart is firmly rooted in the Blue Exorcist flower bed, but I’m willing to give this anime a chance.
Ushio to Tora (TV) 2nd Season
Continuation of Ushio to Tora TV series.
The first season of Ushio to Tora was amazing and I can’t wait to finish it! I’ve eagerly awaited this anime’s return.
Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge
Sighing, leaning on his elbows, sleepy eyes. Tanaka-kun is a boy that basically doesn’t try but isn’t disliked. This is a laid-back youth comedy about Tanaka-kun and the quiet Oota who can’t leave him alone.
I’ve put this anime tentatively on the list. I might find it a little slow, but at the same time it looks sort of sweet. The main character reminds me a little of Miharu from Nabari no Ou except I guess he’s going to be less of a little shit. I looks like a nice summer anime to watch.
Shun Asanaga is a 15-year-old junior high school student with an optimistic and bright personality. One day, he finds a mysterious crystal in the office of his father, who is a scientist and businessman. When he touches it, the world becomes distorted, and he is sent into the world of Endra. Emilio, a prince of the kingdom of Endra is nearing his 16th birthday and despises the reigning king Delzain. Since Emilio is now at the age when he can inherit the throne, he takes up a weapon and attempts revenge. However, because Emilio is too weak, he is captured by Delzain and put in prison. When Emilio is in grief, the wall of his cell becomes distorted and Shun appears from there with two goals: return to his own world, and complete his revenge.
I’ve also added this one tentatively to the list. It’s going to be 24 episodes long, so it must be good, or at least the studio think it’s going to be popular.
The plot sounds interesting, although I already know I’m going to end up shipping the two main characters… Stupid fujoshi brain.
